University of Leipzig – leader in strategic communication

The University of Leipzig is considered as one of the leading Think Tanks for Communication Management and Public Relations in Europe. Our master program Communication management is continuously ranked number 1 in Germany since it started in 2007 The following dates are milestones for this development: in 1409 the University of Leipzig was founded as the second oldest German University, in 1916 Communication Science in Europe was born with the establishement of the Institute of Newspaper Studies (Zeitungskunde) by Karl Bücher, in 1993/94 the first german Chair for Public Relations (Prof. Dr. Günter Bentele) was established, in 2006 followed an additional full professor for Communication Management (Prof. Dr. Ansgar Zerfass). The first master program in the field in Germany was launched in 2007.

Focused on internationality and practice

International partnerships, lecturers, honorary professors with long-standing practice experience and committed students with high qualification make up our profile. The Academic Sociecty for Corporate Leadership and Communication initiated by our department in 2010 provides a platform for exchange between 30 chief communication officers of global corporations based in the German-speaking part of Europe and academia. Among the supporters are global leaders like BASF, Bayer, Deutsche Post DHL, EADS, Microsoft and many others.

Leader in research

The spectrum of research areas ranges from Trust and Reputation in the Media Society to topics as Strategy & Evaluation, Communication Controlling, Interactive Media, Innovation and Technology Communication, Public Affairs, Financial Communication as well as Corporate Media and research in the vocational field and Ethics. The productivity of the team is proofed by over 70 book publications and more than 300 articles and chapters written by the professors in several languages, as well as doctoral theses and research work of their team.

Numerous empirical studies are coached and carried out continually e. g. the annual European Communication Monitor Studies across 40+ countries, the profession studies for the German PR associations Pressesprecherverband and DPRG, as well as studies in the fields of social media, leadership and communication and innovation communication.
